I should have posted this two days ago....

....but you know me, and you know what to expect.

So, this tuesday, January 20th, was my aniversary with Lili. Therefore, this bit goes in spanish:

Yearly Meme

Time to keep my promises! Last year I said I'd do the year review meme yearly, so, so without further ado, (and because right now I have less time than ever, but if I don't do this now, I won't at all) here we go:

So yeah

It's over and done with, I'm graduated, and I did pretty good, too.

Thanks to everyone who helped me and wished me luck.

Always can do one more.

Last bit of the Grad Exam is tomorrow.

I'm preparing to the best of my capacity, but still, wish me luck, my dawgs.

Also, thanks Luke, Andres, Florencia, and obviously, my lovely dearest, Lili, for all the help, and the blokes at Experian and here, for all good vibes.

Will report tomorrow.

At fucking last

I'm going to have my Grad Exam in a few hours. The first part, anyway. Second part's next week.

Wish me luck.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

I just want to get a couple things out here briefly, and I'll expand on them later.

One, I went to the SUE festival, in which three bands played: Kaiser Chiefs, The Mars Volta and R.E.M.

The Kaisers were a very pleasant surprise, even though I expected nothing from them. To be honest, I went for Mars Volta, because I've been a fan of them for years, and I was very, very disappointed. Their performance was a mess; the sound technicians must have done something terribly wrong, because Mars is an excellent band, and there's no excuse for them to sound like an entirely unintelligible mass of noise. Plus, they had zero chemistry with the audience, and left suddenly and seemingly pissed off.

R.E.M., now...Bloody hell R.E.M.

I'm not a fan, or rather, wasn't. I've always regarded them as a good band, by their reputation, and by their most famous songs, but never looked too much into their work. But they made me sing atop of my lungs and loved every second of it. They more than made up for Mars' debacle.

Thanks, Lili, my love, for convincing me to go. <3

Also, go Obama.

See, the title is topical.

Just two things

One, I've been working at Experian for a week now, and it's pretty great. The people are cool, the place is nice, there's free coffee, a company bus, etc. Good stuff. Security is tight, though, because we deal with confidential information. So yeah, I think I'm gonna enjoy this.

Two, mum went to the doctor with Lily today. When she told me that the doctor said her vertebrae had finally fused, and now it was just a matter of proper traumathological treatment... I broke down and started to cry. We've been worried about her for so long, so many years bearing that burden, that fear, that finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is... incredible.
Didn't help that she was also telling me how wonderful Lily is and how lucky I am to have her...because it's true.
I don't cry much, and never had cried of relief or happiness before.

I'm tired and sleepy and my eyes feel weird and I've got very little free time now and it's not gonna change in the foreseeable future...but I love it. I love my life, I love my girlfriend, my family, my job, my friends (even if don't see much of them these days), and I'm happier than I've ever been.

My portable mp3 player sucks, though.

Cheers~

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I start working tomorrow.

Hold on to your asses, ass holders

Yo!
Don't wanna type too much right now, so I'll make it quick.

I had a hideous cold, starting over a week ago, and it hasn't quite left me yet, not entirely anyway.

The practice thing is almost done. We just need the official word and a date for the final exams, and we're done. Please, God, let it be over soon.

I got a job! A prestigious American company hired me! Well, sort of hired me. I'll be on training for 3 months, and unless I fuck up hard somewhere along the way, they'll make my contract go indefinitely. The pay's good, the hours are a little harsh, but well worth it. I start on the 29th, so wish me luck!

Lily's birthday is tomorrow. Today. I think. You know, it's past midnight here so, yes, today. Later we'll have the party and everything, and I got the cake.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY LOVE!

That's that for now. Ta!

Spitting on the face of the Gods

He's gonna pass the test; he's gonna be the best; the best in terms of pants.

Holy fucking shit, son, it's been a while since I popped 'round here.

But not arbitrarily, no, sir. The translation project has advanced quite a bit, so much that we're currently on the stage of "please God let us deliver this shit by Tuesday".  As you can probably infer, the process has been far from seamless and uneventful: the group has waged war against itself repeatedly, notable to terrible levels of disorganization have been shown by both hospital and institute, the text itself fucked itself in one occasion just to spite us, but science marches on. Or rather, translation. Whatever.

In other news, I got mugged (but let us not dwell on that), nearly broke a foot by kicking a wall in a fit of rage due to the mugging (let us not dwell on that either), and got trapped inside a website.

Allow me to expand on the latter point. One of my newest most favourite websites is the very awesome TV Tropes. For those who don't know it, it's a wiki about all the tropes used and abused in all forms of storytelling, not only TV as the title may suggest.
Well, the thing is, my recreational browsing time has become reduced lately, because of the translation thing, responsibilities, etc, but when it comes to tvtropes, I tend to bite off more than I can chew and...well, let's say that one day, I opened so many articles from it that I had to promise myself not to browse any other page until I had read them all. Bloody thing took me over two weeks, and then more time was spent catching up with everything, including wading through the posts on my friends list here. I did not know I was in so many communities. I'm still criminally behind the days on reading my usual comics (of which I only caugth my main priorities), I haven't played any games on the ps2 for ages, and only some Diablo 2 and Half Life on the PC.

So anyway, having found the way out of the funky, funky labyrinth, I wanted to make a post here to signify that I'm still alive, to anyone who's still listening.

Also, I've ventured into the worlds of the culinary recently.
I experimented producing "Eggies on a Basket", but botched several attempts, due mainly to having bought a brand of bread too small. The non burnt results were still delicious, if deformed.
Last night Lily and I gave it a shot at making cheesecake, and it turned out GLORIOUS. I shall post pictures at some point.

So, thassit, ain't boring you no more. I think I'll look up some memes to fill, I need to raise the count of LJs on my blood.

Ta!

A brief culinary rumination.

The other day, Lily was working at this open air fair thing for the weekend. On Sunday morning, little plastic cups were needed, so I ran to the nearest supermarket, and got some for'em. So then, I figured, I'll get some candy of some sort, maybe gummies, and when I go back I'll say "Gummy candy! Essential part of a balanced breakfast", or some similar cheesy bollocks.

But then I ran into these:

On the way back to the stand, curiosity got the best of me and I went and tried one of the little black cats contained within.

I can honestly say these things are positively NEFARIOUS. PERFIDIOUS AND MALEVOLENT, even.

I am convinced they are not, in fact, candy, but an ancient method of German torture, directed towards naughty children.

The bag lies barely touched still, and the gummies, undoubtedly made of tar and the spit of a thousand demons, are only eaten as a means of penance for our earthly sins.

Seriously, guys, yuck.

Make the angels scream

Life is a lemon and I want my money back

Agh, it's been a time. I'm remarkably tired.

Time caught up with us in the Calvo Mackenna project thing, so we had to ask for more, which they thankfully agreed to.

Gramps went to the hospital to have some routine check ups taken, and right as he was leaving, he fell flat on his face. Kind of slightly broke his nose (just a fissure that should fuse nicely even if untreated, said the docs) and strained his neck. Of course they wouldn't let him leave just like that, they ran a lot of other tests on him and called me so i would go pick him up.
Now he's in bed with one of these foamy neck thingers.
Mum was obviously in shock, and thank God for our neighbor lady, who kept her calm while Lily and I went to pick him up.
Speaking of Lily, she's been incredible all through this. She helped me with the cooking and cleaning and everything, not to mention stopping me from freaking out. She's a real treasure, and bloody hell, I love her.

Anyway, now I'm pretty much in charge of the house, but fortunately I already finished my part of the translation. I won't be able to do much editing anymore, but I'm rather confident there's not many atrocious mistakes for the teamblokes to correct.

Rambo Jesus

How many times do I have to tell you, John? I always have a plan.

Oh hay, haven't reported in a while.

-Started the practice at Calvo Mackenna, but working physically at the institute, which sucks.
-Got a notebook last Saturday (didn't want to post about it until I could do it from it) to dodge the problem of the computer shortage at the institute (and the few that are there are all sorts of arse), and also because it'll be useful in the foreseeable future. It's an Acer Aspire, pretty good actually, for the price. Came with a multi functional printer and a bunch of accessories. Sure, it came with Vista, but I swiftly replaced it with a handy optimized version of XP I got somewhere. Also, it can run PORTAL! EEEEY~
-Since Portal runs, I was thinking of getting Team Fortress 2...But my resources limit me to getting it...educationally, and that would not allow me to play on Steam. So why bother.
-TF2 being out of the picture, how about some suggestions for games that could run on this portable tin can? Nothing that would strain it too hard, but modern enough to feel less dinosaurish. So far I installed some stuff I've had for a while, but couldn't run on the home machine (HALO 1, Half-Life, Battle for Middle Earth...) a DS emu, and Portal.
-Speaking of EEEEY, Lily started watching Spaced, and is loving it.
-Still speaking of Spaced, I managed to get me grubby hands on the collector's edition. The British collector's edition. And now they announce they're gonna put out an American one, with commentaries by Kevin Smith, among others. GEE THANKS A LOT. NOW I GOTTA GET IT TOO.
-On the line of series, the first part of the LOST Season 4 finale? Jesus Christ. Now, I know nothing HUGE happened, but you can see the pieces falling together, leading to the undoubtedly huge events of next week. Plus the slowmo bit, with the awesome music near the end, damn that was good. Also, for the best quote of the show, ever, see the post title.
-Watched Iron Man with Lily couple weeks ago. I know it's news to no one, but bollocks, that's good entertainment. Even she loved it to bits, and she doesn't know much about the characters, or comics in general.

So yeah, it's hella late and I should be well asleep.
Ta~

*sneeze*

Today was the meeting for the practice project.

The project itself is interesting, everything sorrounding it is rubbish.

I am not happy, but that's probably because having a cold makes me grumpy. I'll probably be more optimistic about things when I get better.
